The award acknowledges a woman who possesses remarkable leadership and vision and has advanced opportunities for other young, working-class, urban women of Boston; an individual whose impact is widespread and deeply felt. This woman has a concern for humanity and immense determination. Candidates should be actively working in their community, fighting injustice, supporting young sisters and creating lasting, positive change.

Please consider nominating a deserving woman for this award by filling out the nomination form and returning it by this coming Wednesday, November 28, 2007.

Since Reflect & Strengthen was started in 2001, the goal has been to support young, working-class women from Boston in building the necessary skills, passion and revolutionary values to address the needs of our communities. Our work supports the liberation of all people. We strive to embody our principles and values in the way we talk, walk, act, make decisions and hold each other accountable.

Our work for the past seven years has supported the growth, empowerment and development of hundreds of young sisters.

We have shared our stories and radical politics through guerilla theater, popular education, healing circle, organizing campaigns, and beef mediations. We have created spaces that have taken on lives of their own for youth and elders to heal together. We have built relationships with young people of color, women, immigrants, queer people and working-class folk to better understand the systems of oppression that cause violence, poverty, incarceration, unhealthy bodies and minds. Together we have explored our collective histories of revolutions, victories and self-determined strategy-building.
